The number you can come up with should be a good indication of whether you should get one.
I know I want one. At first, I couldn't decide between PS3 or Wii, but then I realized that the main game I want for PS3 (MGS4) is coming out around my birthday, and I should have enough money to buy the $400 model myself by then.
I don't think it's ever worth it to buy a console for games that are not out yet. It definitely is worth getting one for SMG, however.
