Orange Box for the PS3 is a mess, IGN review.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/840/840505p1.htmlUnfortunately, our complaints don't stop there. The remainder of our criticisms are to blame for the discrepancy in scores between the PlayStation 3 version of the game and the 360 version (the PS3 version, after all, wasn't handled entirely by Valve). The PlayStation 3 Orange Box performs far worse, and this fact just isn't up for debate. While framerate issues aren't as problematic in Half-Life 2 and Episode One, Episode Two suffers a great deal, especially during the episode's larger battles. We regret to say that some sections border on being unplayable because of the stutters, which often cause your aim to be thrown off and timing shots to be very difficult. The problem isn't persistent throughout, but when it hits, it hits hard.

More troubling still is the difference in load times. Almost all the PS3 load times are at least five seconds more than the 360, but loading a saved game/loading after death is particularly awful. These clock in at about two to three times as long as the 360 version, which slows down the gameplay considerably. Even though the PS3 Orange Box sports a quicksave feature, any benefit of this option is lost considering the overall abundance of loading.

Even in Portal, a short title that often requires a little trial and error, this problem is massive. The 360 version takes about three seconds to load your last checkpoint if you die. The PS3 version takes seventeen. It hurts.

We must also mention that during all of our Team Fortress 2 play sessions, there was a very startling delay when using explosive weapons like the Soldier's rocket launcher or the Demoman's grenade launcher. When you pull the trigger to fire, there's a very brief but noticeable delay between the recoil of the weapon and the actual delivery of the explosive. This can seriously screw up your timing when trying to lead a rocket shot, or similar attacks.
What the hell. I guess this is what happens when I company could care less about one of the ports and just gives it away for someone else to do. Do it right or don't do it at all.I am not buying this game now, my little protest for garbage like this.Orange Box for the PS3 is a mess, IGN review.
That sucks man, Orange Box is incredible on the 360. Just wait until you pick up your 360 to get it then. Another PS3 port disaster.Orange Box for the PS3 is a mess, IGN review.
Damn. It's a shame for PS3-only owners interested. This is one hell of a game, and it sucks to hear that they (Valve)let the port be so half-assed just because they didn't want to handle it personally.

Damn, that's too bad. I picked up the 360 version a little while ago and the games are great and getting them all in one package is a pretty awesome deal. Episode Two had some pretty intense battle sequences in them and I'm really itching to see what happens in Episode Three.

Oh yeah I forgot you hate Live, hrrmm... well the other games in the package more than make up for its value. I havent touched TF2 yet myself, its kind of a take it or leave it thing for me.
That sucks - Orange Box and Oblivion were my main games I wanted from the next-gen, and I'm getting a PS3, so I'll be stuck with a crappy version of Orange Box, which is going to ruin the rest of my Half Life experience (still haven't played HL2).Ah well, whinge over - I'm from Europe, so I'm used to videogames screwing me over...

Its still a must play. now watch, the PS3 version is not going to sellcause the port is garbagel and Valve is going to twist it around andsay ''see PS3 owners are a waste of time.''

It is a self fulfilling prophecy for sure. I sold the 360 version a while back because my 360 was louder than usual when I played it, and I'm still paranoid. I wanted the PS3 version to be good, but looks like I'll get the PC version here in a few months when I get a good gaming PC.

[/QUOTE]Valve really in general just hates inefficience(Spelling?), 360 was close enough to PC. PS3 on the other hand was just a chore they didn't want to deal with. EA offer and bam.And not to mention...It is the Source Engine. Any PC in the last 5years...heck ill even say this decade should be able to play it.
That's always toobad to hear. Wonder what caused the crappy port?Condolences to ps3 owners.

Since the PS3 boasts a smaller userbase and a lower attach ratio than the X360, no doubt PS3 Orange Box sales will be only a fraction of the presumably low X360 sales.
As far as i'm concerned, any version outside of the PC version is inferior. The Ps3 version is just even moreso because it was'nt done by valve. In fact, Gabe Newell has already called the ps3 a waste of time.
Why the hell would you buy the Orange Box for a console anyway? I can't imagine how slow it must feel!
*sigh*

This is what happens when you put people on a port who don't know what they are doing. Wonderful work Valve... you should have probably just not done it in the first place... :|

It makes no sense, especially now that COD4 and Assassin's Creed have come out and shown that third party games don't have to suck on PS3... oh well... things will get better from here on out. I'll wait for more reviews on this, because going from the impressions that Kotaku was posting, the game is always playable, even at its worst moments. I'm not much of a framerate whore, so I might give it a shot... but UT3 comes first.

I really don't think you have to be a ''framerate whore'' to have problems with a game that becomes unplayable due to slowdowns... :
