Wii Fit takes the top spot this week, which isn't a huge surprise.  Mario Galaxy fought its way back into the top ten, so that is nice counterbalance to the onslaught of Wii Fit... and Lost Odyssey did ok for its first week, but I suspect it won't have legs... and Uncharted... poor poor Uncharted.  Why do they hate you so?  ...and perhaps even more than Wii Fit taking the top spot, the death of gaming in Japan was confirmed by No More Heroes not even cracking the top 30.Media Create Japan Sales 12/3-12/9 (Curses to thee and thine Wii Fit!!!)
That's disappointing about No More Heroes and Uncharted. I love Uncharted to death and I can't wait to get No More Heroes. At least Mario Galaxy managed to push its way back into the top 10.Media Create Japan Sales 12/3-12/9 (Curses to thee and thine Wii Fit!!!)
that really sucks about no more heroes, hopfully it does alot better in the coming weeks, and hopfully it does better here in the states.
Judging by Killer 7 (which had a distinct style but whose gameplay was an afterthought) the Japanese avoiding Suda 51's latest is actually a good thing. Galaxy's sales show that there hardcore gamers, while a dying breed, aren't entirely dead in Japan. As for Uncharted, I don't think there are many non-Japanese makers of hardcore games that realistically expect to succeed in Japan (heck, Japanese makers of hardcore games are giving up on the market).
Well it was good while it lasted, time to find a new hobby. :PGalaxy is doing very well. Whats Yakuza 2 doing on that list, wow they love that series over there.

Sure, the decline isn't evident in this week's data, but a month ago someone looking at the charts might have concluded that the PSP is more popular than the DS is Japan.

WiiFit helps Wii helps Galaxy.

Ideally (for me) both schools of gaming would be healthy (I don't care for casual games, but the notion of my great-aunt playing games doesn't bother me any) but the problem in Japan is that hardcore gaming is dying. By way of contrast, in the US, both schools of gaming are flourishing. So my theory is that there isn't a relationship between the two schools of gaming (the growth of one does not come at the expense of the other).
The ''hardcore'' is really getting owned in sales - and not only in Japan. Look at Vgchartz worldwide sales (they might be a whopping 10 % off though :O ) LINKThe top 5 games are all rated 3+ :P (Well, Wii sports is actually 7+)
Wii fit seems like the gateway drug for corperations to start makeing trendy simpleminded games. I really really hope gameing maintains its overall quality and doesnt go the way of cable TV.
Kind of sad about No More Heroes, but if I recall correctly, didn't Killer 7 have pretty weak sales in Japan too? Oh well, either way I'm not the biggest fan of Suda's games. They often cross the line of being artistically weird to being weird for the sake of being weird. I mean, did you play Contact? The best part of that game was the manual. The rest of it was just a generic game with weird stuff just to break up the monotony.

The non-linear character development system was refreshing to work with, too, given the varying character classes you could work.Didn't hurt that the soundtrack was prety awesome, too.
Well, that top 10 is almost painful to behold. Wii Fit at the top spot is not really annoying, but Mario Party DS certainly is.

Combat was rather frustrating too. It wasn't quite turned based and it wasn't quite real-time. It was just a mixture that ended up to be about as appealing as toothpaste and orange juice.[QUOTE=''nopalversion'']Well, that top 10 is almost painful to behold. Hell Mario Party 8 came out over 6 months ago and it's still a top 20 game.

Yes, they're getting less, but far from ''dying''. it feels more like Nintendo is doing great business in the casual market that third-party will want to have a piece of the cake. In that way, the hardcore gaming will die. Because we all know that third-party are the ones making most games and they're the ones most devoted to find a money-making target.
Wow there is barely any games in that top 20 list I would consider buying outside of Mario Galaxy and No More Heros (and Mario Party *heart*) I guess thats cultural differences and taste for you.
