Virtual Console Releases for 12/10/07. (Mega-Update!)

WII-KLY UPDATE: PHOTO FEATURE, GIFTING ABILITIES AND THREE CLAS-SIC GAMES ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNELDec. 10, 2007Get ready to celebrate the arrival of a bunch of fun new features on the WiiTM Shop Channel. This week marks the debut of the first Pok閙on?game for the Virtual Console: Pok閙on SnapTM, which originally was a hit on Nintendo?64. This Pok閙on photographic adventure comes with a special Wii bonus: It now includes a special feature that allows players to post pictures they take in the game to their Wii Message Board and send them to friends with whom they've traded Friends Codes.

And let's not ignore the other sure-to-please titles: Ghosts'n Goblins and BASEBALL STARS 2. These three new clas-sic games go live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. But wait - there's more!

Later in the day on Monday, Nintendo will make your holiday shopping just a little bit easier. If some people on your gift list have visions of clas-sic video games dancing in their heads, you're in luck. Starting this week, Wii Shop Channel patrons can use a new Gifting feature to send games to other Wii owners with whom they've traded Friend Codes. It's an easy and inexpensive way to give your fellow Nintendo buffs the gift of a clas-sic game-no wrapping paper required. And don't worry about duplication. If your friend already has the game you're trying to give, you'll get a simple message and be bumped back into the catalog to continue shopping.

Nintendo adds new games to the Wii Shop Channel every Monday. WiiTM owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii PointsTM to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

Pok閙on Snap (Nintendo 64, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 1,000 Wii Points): As one of the most unique games in a renowned series, Pok閙on Snap was the first truly 3-D Pok閙on game and introduced the phenomenon to the Nintendo 64. Travel to Pok閙on Island and meet Professor Oak to begin a safari, taking the best possible photographs of 63 different Pok閙on as they exist in the wild, undisturbed by humans. This is not as easy as it sounds-the island has many types of climates and environments to explore, along with secret activities and hidden passages to discover. Plus, some of the Pok閙on can be a little shy and won't pose for the camera unless you tease them with special items. After you're done, submit one picture of each Pok閙on to Professor Oak, and he'll judge it based on size, pose, technique and number of Pok閙on captured.

Ghosts'n Goblins (NES? 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone-Mild Animated Violence, 500 Wii Points): Ghosts'n Goblins was a popular arcade game before it made the leap to the NES in 1986. Like later games in the series, Ghosts'n Goblins presents quite a challenge to players brave enough to take on the role of Arthur and delve into the realm of demons and monsters to rescue the kidnapped princess. Choose your weapons wisely and take advantage of their strengths to deal with the situation at hand. Pass through the six gates that stand between you and Astaroth, and teach him a lesson in chivalry he'll never forget. Demonstrating a high level of technical prowess for a game of its era, Ghosts'n Goblins presents a unique and unforgettable universe. The stage for adventure is set. Are you up to the test?

BASEBALL STARS 2 (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 900 Wii Points): Lace up your cleats and step onto the diamond with the pros of BASEBALL STARS 2. You'll find everything you'd expect in a clas-sic game of baseball, but with an arcade feel and intense action that distinguish it from the pack. Pick one of six unique teams from cities around the world, then get ready for nine innings of excitement, whether you're taking on the computer in a 15-game tournament or squaring off against a friend. There are two modes of game play, so even the most inexperienced player can compete at the major-league level (with a little computer-aided fielding). Watch as the game develops through split-screen views and close-up shots worthy of any highlight film, and see if you can catch the numerous over-the-top animations of the large and detailed player models. Think you have what it takes to win the pennant?Virtual Console Releases for 12/10/07. (Mega-Update!)

You lose! ]*here's the rumbling feet of the crowd of approaching Pokemaniacs... flees*Eep! ...kidding...! I was JUST KIDDING ! ! ! :PVirtual Console Releases for 12/10/07. (Mega-Update!)
Pokemon Snap is a must-buy. I know just having the word Pokemon in the title immeidately turned a lot of people off, but this was a really great and original game. It was a nice mix of photography with just a little puzzle solving thrown in there to keep you on your toes. The only flaw this game really ever had in my eyes was that it was pretty short (you can see almost everything in the game in about 5 or 6 hours unless you're an artsy-fartsy type who likes to take pretty pictures), and that always doomed it to a rental status or buying it used at a low price. But those 6 hours are some of the most engrossing hours I've ever put into a game. And nowat $10 there's no reason not to pick this up. Of course I won't be using the new feature of showing off your photos to friends. That would be an admission that I actually play this game, ya know? That would just be unmanly.
Hey the gift thing is a cool idea! ...... at the crappy games released this week though.
I'm going to get Ghost 'n Goblins. I love playing Ghouls 'n Ghosts, and Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, so I'm sure I'll like this one.
Now Nintendo is making me mad.

I wait and wait for N64 VC games, and they give me.....Yoshi's Story and Pokemon.

No Donkey Kong. No Goldeneye -rare says its okay-. No Excitebike 64. No Ogre Battle 64.

I'm not sure how much that matters, but it might have something to do with the delay of that game coming up on the system. Also, anticipating that they're going to space this out over the next several years, and how there isn't a very huge library of strong N64 games to pick from, I'm expecting those releases to be far and few between...much like they were on the original N64. :P
Oh Snap.I always wanted Pokemon Snap in my collection, as I rented in on multiple occasions and enjoyed it a lot. But it was hard for meto purchase it since it could be fully completed in less than 5 hours easily. But now for ten bucks, everything's coming up Mmmmillhouse!
Pokemon Snap was so much fun. I've gotta download it.

Dude, Ogre Battle 64, Goldeneye and Perfect Dark... sick. We need some more N64 love thats for sure.

I'd be drooling over Ogre Battle if it ever came since I never played it and it was a very rare game back in the day. I think Nintendo is dragging things out a little too much with the Virtual Console. I can see making it last for a few years, but trying to stretch the games out for longer than 2-3 is too much IMO. The VC just isn't going to last forever any way you slice it, and I think trying to make it last until the Wii's successor comes out or saving games for the end of the Wii's life is a mistake. I say start releasing good titles more frequently and then get the ball rolling on more 3rd parties and home brew games to give the VC legs down the road. I haven't been even remotely excited about anything on the VC since Sin and Punishment (which, admittedly, was one of the coolest video game events of the year for me).
Ghosts 'N Goblins? Thanks, my hatred for that game has been upgraded to bloodlust for whoever thought it was good enough to put on Virtual Console .

Sounds like sour grapes from having a game kick your ass.... :P

The game is incredibly unforgiving and even has things that just seem to be there so the developers can laugh at you and instruct you to suck it. Like what? Same sounds made between landed hits and hits that do no damage due to wrong weapon, needing the shield to get to the end or going back TWO LEVELS, PLAYING THE GAME ALL OVER AGAIN ON HARDER DIFFICULTY TO TRULY BEAT IT. __|__ That is a middle finger, aimed directly at Capcom.
The Neo Geo releases are getting annoying. The system is like 90% fighting games and they keepreleasing the 10% that are not fighters. Seriously, where's Samurai Showdown? World Heroes2? Last Blade? As for SNES titles, Super Double Dragon needs a release ASAP. One of the best brawlers ever made. As for this week, nothing for me. I loathe all things Pokemon, I already own a version of Ghost N' Goblins (the superior arcade version) and Baseball Stars 2 simply won't get any play time in my collection.
I declare today as PHANTOM LEO IS AWESOME day. :) Got my first gift, great feature.
Ghosts n' Goblins is finally mine. I love this game!!!!
The NES version of GnG was decent, but nowhere near as good as the arcade version. I'd rather get the equally unfair Super GnG on SNES for my collection.

I remember my cousin and I renting that and we took it out in a weekend. I may have to go back and pick that up to see if we were just lucky. . . or if I am the great gamer the world has ever seen!!!!!!!
My campus's/dorm's wireless sucks... I haven't been able to get online with my Wii since the very beginning of this semester. I have the Nintendo USB device, but except for on my old Dell at home, I can't use it due to some stupid file sharing error that won't go away.Anyway, why the hell aren't these weekly releases being included on the GameSpot VC list? It still has just 100. It's like they waited to hit that milestone (but for how big the library of releasable retro titles is, it's no milestone) and then said ''Ya know what, these are old--no one cares.''
