How do you record ps3,xbox360,wii etc.. to p.c? please help

i heard of capture cards external and internal i would need a external capture card but i dont know if i need my computer to be well equipped or not to run the ps3,wii,xbox360 etc.. does that have anything to do with it since its going throughav jacks? please help i don't know what to do thanks for reading this
