Silent Hill 2, just blew me away

Ive played it once and thought it was scary. Then once i read up on it and understood the story better, i had to play it again.I got one of the alternate endings (In water), and i have to say that this is the most depressing game i have ever played :?. Like, i would never tell anyone not to play it because its sad. Its beyond that for me, its like a study in bleakness and i highly reccomend it. Its so thourougly saturated in dispair that its like a piece of art on the subject. And on top of all that its scary as heck. I just want other people to consider it if theyve missed it. Does anyone feel the same?Silent Hill 2, just blew me away
Nice Slayer avatar....complete with Santa hat and all, lol.Silent Hill 2 was definitely a great game, and yeah, the whole bleakness factor was totally well done and integrated into the story perfectly. Silent Hill 1 is still my favorite of the series though, however SH2 is not far behind.Plus, you gotta love Pyramid Heads.Silent Hill 2, just blew me away
Well, I got the ''Leave'' ending for SH2 when I played it, so I found the ending to be bittersweet, yet touching......certainly not depressing. In fact, I thought the ''Leave'' ending was one of the most touching and best endings I've experienced in a game.Overall SH2 is my third favorite game in the series.....right behind the first SH and SH3, though I will say storywise SH2 is probably ties with the original as the best entry in the series.I've heard of the ''In Water'' ending, and I'm glad I didn't get that one, those are the kind of endings that piss me off and where I feel I wasted my time getting involved with the characters and the story. If I had gotten that ending my first time I probably would have disappointed in the game....luckily I got an ending that I found to be very satisfying.
I don't know about it blowing me away, but I can admit it was an awesome experience. Come on SH5!
Knocked me back a bit when it came out, that was about the time the PS2 finally started to pick up the momentum of brilliant games which held out for ages. It is still far better than any SH after it and I only prefer the first one out of nostalgia I dare say.

SH2 was so good that it makes me sad when I think about how awful SH5 is going to be.
I think SH2 was a total disappointment. The atmosphere was lame.I almost couldn磘 play SH1 alone in the dark, the 2nd was just a poor shadow of that.I stopped playing after 2 hours because I was bored. It wasn磘 a ebtirely bad game...just far from the frightning atmosphere of the first.
Yep, story- and atmosphere-wise Silent Hill 2 was the greatest game in the series, IMHO. I still recommend this as the absolute horror game. Plus, the balance between puzzling and fighting was ideal, a far cry from the combat-heavy gameplay of the later games.

And I must say, it was quite good as the story goes from the town to the mansion (am I correct?).

For a game on a new console it sucked and as a seperate game it sucked as well because it didn't bring anything new to the series aside from the awesome cgi cut-scenes which were kinda ahead of their time * the lip-synching was!* I wouldn't even call it a good experience. I don't knowwhy it blew you away but to me the only great thing about the series is the character design and only that!
Silent Hill 2 isn't my favorite game in the series (the monsters as a class are a bit too slow) but the story is amazing (Angela and Jame's stories are AAA stuff) and it had a lot of really memorable moments (Angela's breakdown after she is attacked by a monster was a 'Wow' moment for me). The beauty of the Silent Hill games is that while the creators do a nice job with lighting effects, textures and monster design, each game takes pains to establish the humanity of its characters (in SH2 the bleak desperation/guilt that would drive a guy to bother to investigate a letter from a woman he knows is dead comes through very well).
