Were nearing the end of 2007, what was your guys favorites?

and why?For me it was definitely COD4. Awesome MP, and a short but also awesome Singleplayer. Were nearing the end of 2007, what was your guys favorites?
God of War 2Were nearing the end of 2007, what was your guys favorites?
among the games released in 2007?Final Fantasy Tactics: War of Lions. Well among original titles, I'd say Persona 3 or Assasin's Creed.
From what I've gotten so far, I'd say, Halo 3, BioShock, and Crackdown.
Personal Favorites....RPG
The Witcher - Finally, a real mature RPG that delivers great choice, actual consequence, and actual moral ambiguity in player choices then the typical cut and dry ''good vs. evil'' cliche so many other RPGs fall into. The Witcher is definitely one of the best RPGs to arrive in quite awhile that actually feels and plays like an RPG to the core. CD Projekt RED Studio's debut game managed to be a better RPG then what veteran developers have released in recent years....if CD Projekt RED keeps delivering projects of this quality while continuing to make improvements with each new installment, they'll definitely carry the torch of other great RPG developers such as Black Isle Studios and BioWare.

Action
God of War II - It was hard to imagine how this could get any better then the amazing God of War from 2005, but this game took everything from that game and upped the ante....definitely my favorite Action title of 2007.

Shooter
Crysis - Amazing Visuals....Check. Great Single Player Campaign....check. Cool Weapons and Items....check. Awesome Environments...check. Good Length....Check. Of course Crysis had the best graphics out of every game this year, but it also delivered the gameplay. Crysis has everything I was looking for in an FPS, and then some. Crysis took game visuals, technology, and the FPS genre a step forward all while showing the doubters that it definitely had great gameplay to go with the pretty looks.Half Life 2: Orange Box - Hands down the best value of the year. You get what I consider the most fun multiplayer shooter of the year with TF2. You get the excellent Portal which I consider a pretty innovative title in the genre. And you get what could be considered the best single player shooter in recent years along with a great new episode.Call of Duty 4 - Though it's definitely a short, COD4 definitely had a great and intense campaign, as well as delivering some of the best visuals this year. Though the game could get a little too chaotic at times, I definitely feel that taking it into the modern era made for probably the best entry into the series so far. Action Adventure
Zelda: Phantom Hourglass - Another game I wish I had spent more time with, but no denying it's a top notch title. Platformer
Super Mario Galaxy - Though I will admit I haven't been able to spend as much time with this title as I've wanted due to playing it on my friends Console, but this is some of the most fun I've had with a title all year. SMG is defintely to 2007 what SM64 was in 1996 in all the right ways. I'm actually rooting for this one to win Overall GOTY.
Im gonna throw a curveball and go with Crayon Physics.Yes I know. ''WTF?!'' Check it out. Its really amazing. Also check out my blog about it.
For me it would be crysis hands down, greatest shooter i have ever played in a long long time.
Super Mario Galaxy. Why?
ratchet and clank size matters
The Witcher... slaying monsters, drinking beer, and hooking up with medieval women is so much fun.
AC
Console- Uncharted Drakes FortuneHand held-Zelda Phantom Hour GlassPC-WoW Burning Crusade
call of duty 4, i love the multiplayer
So many great titles this year and I STILL have to say that The Witcher wins hands down IMO. It's hard to compare apples and oranges but the fact that RPG fans everywhere have been screaming for something that actually took character, story, and moral dilemmas a step further than Planescape Torment since the 90's (ok, thelaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate 90's.... like the last few weeks)makes any game that finally comes along out of nowhere to deliver an automatic win. There's really no genre that has stalled out for quite that long without dying and I'm thrilled that we're finally back on track.
it would have to b halo3 even tho i dont own it

i played it in a lan party and it is FUN, it was sooo fun we couldnt put it down 4 24+ hours
Super Mario Galaxy - I don't think I've ever played a game this perfectRunners up:

UnchartedHeavenly Sword (underrated game of the year)God of War IIMetroid Prime 3Ratchet and Clank Future
Rock Band
WoW - Burning Crusade: Great design, tons of stuff to do, even if creatively this wasn't always up to snuff.Mass Effect: I missed Bioware so bad, so this was very welcome.Uncharted: Best cinematic action title ever.Super Mario Galaxy: Nigh-on perfect (for it's genre).Orange Box: Just can't argue with that.Motorstorm: My favourite arcade racer of the year.Bioshock: My favourite survival horror game of the year.
Fantasy War...It took me by surprise. I never saw this title coming...and it was great.City of Villains, Medieval Total War, Beyond the Sword (civ) all have a legit entrance into my favorites for this year as well, but medieval is an old game, city of villains I was already playing...so only Beyond the Sword is kinda new...I guess I am becoming old and grumpy! 8)

  • in a dilemma

Ok, i dont know what to get for Christmas. i have a xbox360 and a Wii, and i kinda want a ps3 although i dont like paying $60 for a game. should i get one or just buy sumthing else. o and the ps3 i would be able to get on my budget would be the 40GB one. let me know what yall think in a dilemma
That is what passes for a dilemma these days, huh?Well, do whatever you think will make you happiest in the long term I'd say...in a dilemma
Heh, I'm having a similar 'dilemma'. I'm trying to decide if I want to upgrade my gaming PC or buy another console. For a hardcore techie gamer like me, this really is a dilemma that requires a LOT of thought. :) There really is no right answer. Everyone obviously has a different perspective. Imagine what it would feel like to get each present and see how you feel.
If it were me, and I didn't have anything else I really wanted, Then I'd totally go with the ps3. But, if I was upgrading my PC, I would rather do that than get a ps3. But thats just me...
Well I don't think itis a hard choice to make. If you doexpectsome console game to play around xmas, just buy PS3, if not then buy something else and later on when your favourite ps3 game comes out you can consider buying a ps3

why is the AO rateing a negitive stigma to the gameing world?

Since the average gamer, Is 20 to 30. An dult it would make sense to make more games geared to a older audience.I think there could be more art in games if there were less constraints.why is the AO rateing a negitive stigma to the gameing world?
It's got a stigma attached because for everything besides Manhunt 2, AO=porn. Really, that's how it works, AO is interactive porn. The way it is set up though is that if there is a game that is rated AO and doesn't suck, there isn't an avenue for you to play it on a console due to what Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo decide. Sure, you could still play it on the PC, but most stores won't even carry it. On that note, this topic has been played to death, so please let the thread die.why is the AO rateing a negitive stigma to the gameing world?

The only reason AO games are not sold on the public markets is because ''worried'' mothers are scared that their child will turn into a porn addict... For now, all I can say to adults is to look for some trustworthy retailers. Also, I know for a fact most porn is directed towards MALES other than females.
It's simple. Gaming industry has not matured yet.Japan I'd say has most matured gaming culture in the world, but even there AO rating is foriegn on consoles. When people can accept games are part of their culture like movies and don't put it down by just calling them ''games'' as if they were mere toys, maybe then the industry can really make good use of AO.
What's so creepy about their AO games?Sure it focuses more on their sexuality than anything else, but that's not all it provides. Many of their games provides unique experiences and often deals with many life issues. Also I think it is much more positive than just porns because they portray emotions for their actions. It's not just mindless animal sex for most of those games. Although many of them do have women that are rather easy to get them to the bed and perform things 90% of women out there wouldn't do. Not only that, no women are getting exploited in those games. It does create many false image of women and objectifying them to negative degress, but it does provide enough of other things to make the female characters in the game more than just sex objects. Compared to regular porns, I'd say hentai games are much more positive towards society.
It's negative because, for the most part, you can make just as good of a game with a Mature rating. To get an AO you usually have to be trying to get it. Plus, if I was a parent, I wouldn't want my kids playing that stuff.

That's why AO stands for ADULTS ONLYwhy would you even think about your kid playing a game that is labled ADULTS ONLYworrying about such game being created is like worrying about porn being filmed or movies releasing R rated movies. I'd rather worry about Titanic getting PG-13 rating despite having boob scene and the use of the F word. ADULTS ONLY game being created is not a problem.
I'll agree with you that the gaming industry is put down to the level of toys while perhaps a few noted examples approach artwork, I don't think the industry's reaction to AO is a good example of this. It seems to me a rather easy comparison is to NC-17 for film. From what I've heard (I'm no critic to be sure), director's will do whatever they can to reduce the explicit content in their work to achieve an ''R'' rating as traditionally NC-17 movies fail for the same reasons the majority (all?)of AO titles do. For this reason, I don't think we can claim that the reaction to explicit content is unique to gaming at all.

I think that's a good indication how much movie industry has evolved and gaming industry needs to time to mature. It's getting better, and I'd give gaming industry another generation or two to catch up to freedom of movie industry. In that aspect, I think gaming industry is doing fine. As for Adults only rating. NC-17 movies do fail quite a bit if they are serious movie intended for theatre. However, if the movies were targeted differently like porn industry, then that's whole another story. Film industry embraced the porn industry while gaming industry have not. I think that shows another sign of maturity.General publlic understands that there are some movies for adults and there are some movies for kids. However, it seems general public still has trouble understanding that some games are for adults and some are for kids. To them, anything that is for adults is evil game, like GTA series. When gaming industry can make general public to have same understanding as movie industry, that when gaming industry have fully matured.
The problem is the Big Three don't support AO games. They don't want them on their consoles, and most stores won't sell AO games. Getting the AO rating on your game is the kiss of death, and it's usually associated with porn, even though the ESRB ratings guide explicitly states that extreme violence could also warrant the rating.
The reason is because all the big retailers (Wal-mart, Target, etc.) won't sell AO rated games.
I don't think some people realize this, but I just want to say it again to make sure everybody realizes it. AO GAMES ARE PORNYes, you can get it for extreme violence, but I can't think of one game that has happened to. Even Manhunt 2 just had it because of how you cut a guy's balls off and stuff like that. Major retailers won't carry those games, and they don't carry those movies either. It isn't a stealth censor, it is the industry not wanting you to stick the Wiimote in places where it should never, ever be.
What's wrong with porn? Why can't developers be encouraged to make porn? Is there a problem with it?

Taking into consideration that there are looser restrictions for movies than for games, I imagine it is related to control; a game places the player in the role of such and such situation. In a way, it is the player that is performing whatever illicit action a particular game allows. Even though this is an obviously fictitious world, it doesn't seem surprising that people wonder at the appeal of these games. ''Why does my Timmy play a game where he shoots people walking down the street? Why is that fun?'' It would seem then, that this differs from a movie for the obvious reason. All movies are told from a third person perspective - we are trained to judge characters (including the protagonist). When a particular character makes an immoral choice it is interpreted as the character's choice which results from his or her current situation. In a game where the player is the main character, it seems a little tougher to explain the action of, for example, Manhunt as deep character development. That's not to say there isn't character development in the game, but the fact remains that there is less distance between the player and the game then there is in the viewer (or reader, for that matter, in the case of books) and the movie.

And if you are young enough to get absorbed into games that much to the point it can change your thought process, then that kid shouldn't be playing adult rated game in the first place. Also whatever games can do, human mind can do much worse. In my mind my ex has been grinded to death because she's been such a ****** to me, but I know if I do that in reality, I'll be caught by CSI immediately so I don't do it. I don't think that should be any reason to disallow the creation of more adult oriented games.
I'd like to believe that adults are able to differentiate between reality and games or it would be really scary to live in this world. First of all, you're assuming all adults are the same, which is something you better delete from your programming right now. Second, there are millions of people (young and old) that cannot tell the difference between reality and make-believe.Third - I hate to break it to ya - but it IS a scary world we live in, and embracing the things that make it worse, isn't helping..

Maybe if they make games that allows them to do retarded things in virtual reality world, perhaps they will do it in the game instead of in reality. second, I doubt differentiating reality from make believe isn't any more difficult in games compared to movies. When people are stupid, they do stupid things like some kid that jumped out a window thinking he is super man. third, things that make the world become worse aren't games but neglecting people who needs help. Games don't make people worse, it's ignorance that makes things worse.
None of the console makers want to be known as the system which the porn games are on. While many adults play games, they know that a significant part of their market is children and teenagers. Now we already saw how the media had a field day with hot coffee, which is kind of a joke since if you are going to alter a game's code, you could insert your own stuff into it anyway really, but I digress. The console makers probably figure that whatever inrceased sales they might have by allowing AO games would be more than offset by the lost sales of parents not wanting to buy their kids ''the console with the porn games.'' They are probably right.
    Most stores don't sell them.

    VGA Party Poopers

I saw on fatalblade.com (check it out, good site) that at this years VGAs, some guys party crashed the game of the year speech! can you believe that!?

    Assassin's Can't Swim?

WTF, I want to be able to assassinate on land and under water. Really what's so hard about it, you just kick your feet and wave your arms.Assassin's Can't Swim?
They're like cats, once they hit the water their brain shuts down and they can't function.

Gaming System you use the most

I was just curious as to what other people use the most.I want to know:A: What is the system you spend the most time on right NowB: What is the system you spent the most time on (All-time)And, naturally... if you would like, you can add why you play on what you play on.---I'll go first:Right now I use my Dreamcast the most. I just can't get enough of it... so many great games! All time tho, PC deffinitley takes the cake. I spent my childhood on ol' greybox, and that's countless hours right there, I doubt it will ever be topped. Gaming System you use the most
A: This year definitely the PC, especially with the releases that have come out since Fall like Crysis, The Witcher, HL2 Orange Box, COD4, Gears of War PC, and UT III....and going forward into 2008 that doesnt seem to chance especially with titles like Spore, Mafia 2, HL2 Episode Three, STALKER Clear Sky and others scheduled to arrive next year...not to mention future mods and maps we'll be seeing for Portal, TF2, UTIII, and Gears of War PC.B: Definitely PC, especially when I take into account the lengthy RPG games and the time spent in many top quality multiplayer titles over the years.Gaming System you use the most
    Tie between Wii and DS.
    Right now: Xbox 360

    All time: Xbox
    PS3-all the timePS2-not so much
Right now 360 - Halo 3- Currently level 40, want to get to 45 then to BrigadierAll time - GamecubeI miss the old days of my Gamecube, I remember all the games I used to play (this was before I discovered GS)Baten Kaitos, Tales of Symphonia, Paper Mario 2, Windwaker, Ocarina of Time Masterquest, Resident Evil 4, Super Smash Bros. Meelee, Mario Kart: Double Dash!, Mario Party 6, Prince of Persia 2, ahhhh those were my glory days. I didn't read reviews so I bought whatever looked good! I remember playing through Baten Kaitos 2 times, and Resident Evil about 10, and Super Smash Bros. Meelee nonstop, along with beating Mario Kart on 50cc, 100cc, 150cc, and Mirror Mode. I unlocked every character in Meelee and I had about 3 stages left to unlock, then I deleted that file :(
    Right now my 360, alltime....probably my 360.
I use my PS2 the most .Tie between PS1 Snes, and PS2 for all time
definintely pc for all time and most played now
between all the mmorpg's ive tried and playing fps online, this trumps the time i played on my 2nd most system, ps2 which i mostly play sports games and final fantasy series on
Right now I spend about an equal amount of time on PS3 and WiiAll time, it would have to be the PS1
Right now - tie between PC and 360. WoW on PC takes a lot of my time, while I tend to play most new games on 360.All-time: Probably the PS2.
right now I currently play my 360, the system I mostly play is my SNES ( I just cant get enough of Final Fantasy III)
Right Now: Wii - Galaxy, Metroid

All-time: PC - I've been using the beige box since the days of DOS.
Right now - WiiAll time - I think Gameboy colour - might be N64 or GC though, I'm not sure.
Now: PCAll time: PCMy Xbox360 and Wii get a little bit of love from time to time.
Wow, I expected a lot more older systems to be mentioned :shock:SNES and PS1 are only mentioned a couple of times...NES/Atari/other old sh!t not even mentioned once, wow!I guess not too many retros around here!So why the love for a specific system?
I used to play on SNES, PSX and PS2 a hell of a lot. Now it's PC only, I don't have a Wii PS3 or 360. Sold the SNES years ago, PSX died, and recently my PS2 died. GameCube is the system I have used the least, makes a great door stop. Still play on Xbox now and again when a friend of mine comes round.A: PCB: A really tough choice between SNES, PSX and PS2. I can't remember tbh.
    360 hands down.
PC, goodRPG and GBT games are extremely scarse outside the PCs...I also have a PS2 (didn't play it for 2 years now I think; Champions of Norrath was my last game on this console), a Xbox (Morrowind and KOTOR 1...long long time ago), 360 (Overlord and Oblivion) and a DS (Advance Wars; Dual Strike...2 years not played either). Aside for a few nights exceptions playing oldies...such as Joust! (could be on any of these except the DS...yet it is on the Xbox).
PS3 for right now, PS2 or DS in general
