I want a video game movie that gets an 80% freshness rating or above on the tomatometer over at rottentomatoes.com. Until that happens, people in the film industry will not look at video game adaptations seriously. With the announcement that God of War and Halo movies are in the works, I'm wondering if these could be the first truly great movies based on video games. I think God of War especially has a ton of potential, as the game's brilliant story and cuts scenes felt more like a film than most games I've played. What do you guys think would make the best game movies? Perhaps Shadow of the Colossus?Video Game Movies
they made hitman hollywood is going to release halo that what i herdCohenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12734408503977344673noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6487743803345454417.post-51721496739958553932011-12-13T06:06:00.002-08:002011-12-13T06:06:39.263-08:00Any recovering MMORPG addicts feeling the itch again?I am ashamed to say that I want to play FFXI again. I hate this game, I really do, but damn it if I didn't love playing it for certain aspects. The only thing that keeps me from starting up again is the ridiculous time sink that you have to endure to do the smallest crap, and the monthly fee. If it was much faster to level up and didn't have that stupid fee, I'd start again.Any recovering MMORPG addicts feeling the itch again?
ff11 was addicting. i miss my red mage. i was thinking of starting up again in fact.oh yeah we use to do triple magic burts......epicnessAny recovering MMORPG addicts feeling the itch again?
I know exactly what you mean. I was complete EverCrack addict back in the day. I played throughout 1999 until the beginning of 2001, taking breaks here and there, but never staying away for more than a couple months. But finally I got fed up with enough things that I said screw it, and tossed it aside. But, a year later I'd read about the expansion packs I missed and would start to get curious again and eventually started up the account again. However, the drawwasn't quite the same, the things that frustrated meseemed worse than ever, and a month later I stopped playing. This happened a couple more times, with the time I spent playing getting shorter and the gaps getting longer. The last gap was about 3 years long, and I only went back for a week. That was back in January. So I say go back, and have fun for a little while. My bet is if you were truly frustrated with the game, you probably will get just as frustrated when you go back, and the addiction won't be quite the same.
I have that itch to play every single day....It was my first MMO and I absolutley loved it. I def would probably start up again if it wasn't so old...considering its out on 360 now too I wouldn't have to upgrade my comp..But I hear SE is making a new MMO but they haven't release anything about it yet.
I'm feeling the urge to start replaying Dungeon Runner's again, i got to level 30 within a week and decided i had better stop before the addiction took too strong a hold over me. Sadly i cant stop thinking about reinstalling it and starting my subscription again...
Yeah. I just tried Eve Online recently. It seemed cool at first, but in the end I decided that game is probably not for me. It doesn't seem all that team-oriented and there is too much of a disconnect between what you are doing in the game and what you are ''earning.''
I can't say I like the common MMORPGs because they rely too much on stats, items and level progression. I long for the day when there is a good Space Sim MMO - WITH NO GODDAMN FEES :x

If games like Guild Wars can be made without the need for fees then I don't see why there should be any.
dont worry. whenever you go back, you have fun for a couple weeks with whatever new content, but then you remember all the reasons you left, and flee again.
I played Everquest back in 2000 for three months, but I never really got addicted to it.
WoW, i have to drown out the itch with PS3 games.
I managed to stop playing WOW about 4 months ago because school was in but soon it wil be the winter semester, a few months of no school for me with very little to do... i hope i dont get on it again because wow use to eat up an minimum of 6hours a day.
I get the WoW itch all the time. I haven't played for 8 months now but I've had the itch constantly since then. I don't know if it will ever go away, even though I know the WoW I miss (pre-TBC, esp. 40-man endgame with friends who are no longer there) isn't coming back. I'm wondering if it is something that is just always there once it gets in your blood. I don't know if I will play WoW again, but once WotLK comes out it will be tough not to. I have to ignore other MMOs as well, or I'll be tempted to give them a try and see what it's like.
I haven't been subscribed since July and I've spent a lot of money on games since then :D MMO's make you save money. I've made a promise not to play another MMO before AoC comes out. I played LOTRO for eight months and then I got bored. Delaying AoC twice messed my plans :D
I quit Everquest, came back, quit again. That game nearly ruined my life. I was working till 4, went home logged on, went to bed at 2 sometimes, got up at 6, went to work again, so on and so forth.Final Fantasy XI was no different. The entire game is a grindfest with almost no storyline progression. It takes literally a whole Final Fantasy single player game of playtime to get anywhere in the story.Seriously, do yourself a favor and not.I know I'd wash out of my PhD program if I ever took up an MMO again.
Unfotunately, or fortunately I'm completely cured from MMORPG itch. FFXI would get me itching again if so many people didn't quit.Perhaps it's technology, but MMORPG haven't reached full potential yet. Once they make MMORPG that's worth playing, then I'd get back to it, but while WoW is the best MMORPG out there, I have no reason to feel the itch again.
I played three in my lifetime. FFXI, WoW and LOTRO. But i never was addicted to any. Hell, i have never got past level 18 on any of the three either. But I do have an itch to play A mmorpg. I tend to like the concept more than the execution and end up wasting how many dollars for the game and monthly fees for nothing. I was keeping an eye out for Conan but I dont know what happend to it, but the game intrigued me. Still, I dont want to start up cause I feel MMOs are a committment and i could never enjoy something that felt like that.
yeah WoW, espeically with their new faster leveling thing, which is the thing i disliked it for most before, also with star wars galaxies which was my first mmorpg so it holds a special place in my gaming heart
adult acne
Cohenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12734408503977344673noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6487743803345454417.post-1787840101835885382011-12-13T06:06:00.001-08:002011-12-13T06:06:23.474-08:0010 games you're kids shouldn't play this christmas!LINKIt's a small wonder how it's so easy for some people to bash a form of entertainment which doesn't exactly blow their skirt up. Especially when those people are the high and mighty US media watchdogs who apparently know you better than you know yourself. Well it looks as though NIMF feels that they would be remiss if they didn't give parents the checklist of games they feel will take your children's innocence this year.I guess in their minds they probably feel awfully patriotic by doing their part to ensure a healthy mentality of future generations, unscathed by the ravages of virutal violence. But in my mind their doing nothing but calling those people's partenting ability into question as well as insulting their intelligence by suggesting that they are oblivious to that very visible M-rating as well as the content pertaining thereto listed next to that rating on the back of the game.I think parents know their own kids a little better than NIMF and are fully capable of assessing what will and will not warp their childrens' fragile minds. That rating is very clearly displayed, NIMF. There is no need to launch a smear campaign against certain games you've singled out to add to your ''do not play'' list.10 games you're kids shouldn't play this christmas!
was the list sarcastic?

How can they say Kane and Lynch is bad but suggest . Hannah Montana: Spotlight World Tour? :S10 games you're kids shouldn't play this christmas!
lmao half the games listed as unsuitable shouldn't be sold to kids anyway as they are 17+ so why the author thought it worth his time making that article is beyond me.
At least there is a list of games to let kids play, instead of parents going out and buying licences garbage for their kids. It is a little obvious to not let kids play M games.
10. Time Shift (gratuitous time manipulation)How is time manipulation bad for children? Surely shooting is theworse feature
Conan (loin cloths) LMAO
those british can be soooooo funny
anyway i thank god i'm 19 and can play these games
good thing i don't have kids too
but when my kids play games they can't play any games like that until they know its not real and you can do things like that in real life with out getting punished for them
This list seems a bit sarcastic really there was an american list of ten games kids should avoid somewhere. It made me laugh one of the games had a discription by the end of the game you will kill even 900 people maybe it was RE4 not sure. My response to making of such lists by government oficials is...stop teaching history both world and american it is a history of war and murder. The war for independance for example now celebrated how many actuall people died then. Leave games alone stop gloryfing real war.
was the list sarcastic?

How can they say Kane and Lynch is bad but suggest . Surely shooting is theworse feature
Yeah... That one almost seems like a joke. If the TimeShift people are reading this, here's hoping they put that right on the box. ''Time manipulation so gratuitous that it's the game they don't want you to play!!!''The other thing though... I don't think the kid who wants Call of Duty 4 is going to be happy with Hannah Montana. Also, many games on both of those lists suck and should not be given as gifts regardless of age. And finally...Why is Super Mario Bros. 3 on there??? Sure, that would make sense in 1990, but that game is 17 years old! Not to mention they already had Super Mario All-Stars if you missed it then, and even a GBA version! Please, don't buy your kids this game for $5 on the Wii for Christmas, just get it because you care. If you child can ask for games for Christmas but hasn't played SMB3, you have failed as a parent.
id love to see kids playing eternal darkness
btw the list was provided by that Media Institute and the comments next to each title were added by the journalist, which is why the list is pretty funny. not very good, loin cloths, gratuitous time manipulation... lol. Those were good. The bottom of the article is the best part:Apart from a couple of notable exceptions this selection has the added bonus of putting children off videogames for the rest of their natural lives.
Damn kids and their Guitar Hero games. When I was a kid I had to learn a real guitar.
He listed Guitar Heroes III in the turkey-nap safe games. Someone please tell him there's hellspawn heavy metal music in guitar heroes.
Well... that's a thoroughly useless list. For the most part, they're concurring with the ESRB, while not nearly covering the breadth of titles the rating system does. If you're going to recommend ten games, though, shouldn't you recommend ten games that are good? Mario and Sonic at the Olympics? Please.
lmao half the games listed as unsuitable shouldn't be sold to kids anyway as they are 17+ so why the author thought it worth his time making that article is beyond me.
Read the whole post again...maybe then you'll see why I made it. As a parent, if you're not aware of what the content of a game is when you buy it for them, you're irresponsible. So I don't have a problem of them being called out for buying games on that list. The ESRB is absolutely a better resource overall, though. They're a dangerous organization in terms of their ability to censor games, but as far as keeping not-for-kids content in the domain of parental discretion, they're pretty solid. And I definitely don't like the implication that anything not on the list of ten games to avoid is A-okay, or that you shouldn't buy anything not on the list of suitable games. It's kind of insulting to an industry as big as this that they pick exactly twenty games.
I'm not sure any parent who buys Manhunt 2 for their eight year old child is going to win any Parent of the Year awards. First off, it's a multi-purpose machine that can be used for work, school, and entertainment and people generally have an easier time justifying a PC purchase rather than a console which is still viewed as a toy. Hardware prices aren't anywhere near as high as most people claim, you can get a very good PC for a small amount of cash and most PC gamers won't start pulling their hair out if the can't max out every game that comes out. Also, PC games are a lot cheaper than console games (this is especially true in Europe), their prices fall a lot faster and generally they offer a lot more lasting value. Piracy is a factor, but let's not pretend as if piracy doesn't affect console gaming as well.
ARE YOU KIDDING? YOU CAN GET AN AWESOME GAMING PC JUST FOR 450 DOLLARS! No need for that Case either, they should already have one. They can get a PENTIUM D WITH JUST 2 CORES, AND CAN STILL HAVE AWESOME PERFORMANCE!!!Your shooting way too high man, I like the way you think, but above 600 is just too much for people. All at once that is.Sorry for the caps lock, and yes, that PC will last way longer then a ps3 and 360 combined, but hell, that 790 was too much really. I got more then half that stuff and my price combined was like 560 dollars. I've had my PC for ages now, and I'm never changing.
See, I think you guys are missing the point here. PC gaming isn't expensive for you because you know what you are doing. If I was going to get a computer, I would have no idea where to start, where to look for good deals, and what I am getting for money. I would have to ask somebody else to do everything for me, or do a lot of research on the side. You guys just don't realizehow confusing it isbecause you actually understand what's going on in the world of video cards and stuff.I actually want to get a new one and I have about $1000 that I'm willing to spend, but all the places around here are telling me it takes $2000 to play the latest games. I know that is overpriced, but it's either trust some business out only for my money or some nerds on the internet, neither of which I want to put a $500+ investment into based on their word. The other thing... when the $600 PS3 came out, it sold pretty bad after the initial wave during launch. $600 is too much just to earn the right to buy games to play if the hardware behind it doesn't justify it. Sure, you can say you useyour PC forother stuff, but most people have a PC that can do everything they need it to besides playing the latest video games.
Maybe it's just me, but I don't like having to install drivers and do a lot of configuration to get a game to work. Buying a graphics card, installing it, then finding out it isn't supported for some weird reason really gets my goat.
It is not purely a matter of raw cost, it is a matter of cost VS time spended in it. My 360 cost me about $5 per hour of playing so far, so it is relatively expensive, yet borderline and hopefully getting better over time...my computer cost me a few penny per hour.My DS is definitely the most expensive of the bunch, I am not about to consider buying another portable thingy.
That's cheap, yes, but on X-Play they had a special all about PCs and PC games. Morgan Webb showed how to coem up with the ultimate gaming PC under 4000 $. I'd say that PC would be more reliable and last longer.Cohenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12734408503977344673noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6487743803345454417.post-79501104327074573652011-12-13T06:05:00.000-08:002011-12-13T06:05:25.511-08:00Can you make money for discovering secrets/glitches in video games?Like for example, the person who discovered the Minus Levels in SMB? I post videos online of these accomplishments'; some believe, and some don't. As an attempt to prove myself, I created a video of me beating Blizzeta in Zelda Twilight princess- I had someone help with the camera so it actually shows me, as well as a scarf over my eyes to show that I don't look (because, well, I can't).Before asking my question, I'll answer some of the common questions I get on forums:How can I read what's on my screen? Do I have to have someone sitting there reading it to me?No. I use a program called Jaws (Job access with speech). It reads the computer screen and has commands that allow me to navigate my windows pc with ease. I can get into it more later if you are interested. Please visit http://www.freedomscientific.com/or google ''Jaws for windows'' for more information, and even a downloadable demo. To see my youtube videos, see:http://www.youtube.com/genuinescorruptionPlease watch the Blizzeta video for proof-even if Legend of Zelda isn't your thing. Now, for my question:Would anyone be willing to help me with Castlevania: Circle of the Moon?I have an online friend from another forum who is guiding me through the game, telling me how many times to slide in what direction, when to jump, when to whip etc. We are about 1/3 of the way through audience room. He doesn't want to do the machine tower. When we get there, would anyone be willing to use the same tactics to guide me through this part of the game? I can also post the progress he's made. Please post here if you know this game and are interested, or if you have a question.Thanks,Jordan.Seeking some help with Castlevania: Circle of the Moon
BumpCohenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12734408503977344673noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6487743803345454417.post-36844634708698479602011-12-13T06:04:00.001-08:002011-12-13T06:04:41.351-08:00God of War II not in the GOTY voting list?Hi allI just saw the highly anticipated games for 2007 here http://www.gamespot.com/best-of/?tag=hotslot;img;1Why they did not include God of War II ? not all the game listed are next gen (Manhunt 2, Zelda and maybe orange box)It is a shame that a big title is not even considered to be in GOTY competition!God of War II not in the GOTY voting list?
There is a sign ''Presented by GameStop'' It's just preeliminaris. You don't need billions of dollars to create a masterpiece. You need creativity, and the ability to think outside of the box. What is crucial to make a good game?
Originality, as in, a good idea. For example: Portal = A good idea.
Control. That is the basic principle of any game in existence.
Just gotta correct this- If Infinity Ward would have made Call of Duty 3, it would have been amazing.Almost all games besides the totally ineptcan get the basics down. It's just that you have to have something that makes your game different AND awesome. Halo, for example, is for the most partwas nodifferent than any other shooter. It was the little things that made it awesome. Having regenerating shields was huge, and has since been seen in tons of other games that even those who profess their hate for Halo play and enjoy. You gotta have the basics, and then that something to show why your game is better than all the others, or at least solidify its niche.Cohenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12734408503977344673noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6487743803345454417.post-11419506985096255562011-12-13T06:02:00.002-08:002011-12-13T06:02:38.764-08:00should i buy FF7should I buy it? its on ebay for cheap and just wondering if i should get it or not..this is the cheapest one i found:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem%26rd=1%26item=230201062772%26ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT%26ih=013

doesnt black label mean its rare or somethingshould i buy FF7
yeah the greatest hits is all over the place. not a bad price if you are interested in the game. just keep in mind its age when you play it, i dont know if it will have nearly the impact now it did when it came out.should i buy FF7
Keep expectations in line with reality. A lot easier to control graphics, control options, and the character itself, and you can download skin packs, worlds, items, etc. additionally.
From my experience, you won't need to do many reflex and precision-based actions so combat controls should be good for both versions, but you can set up hotkeys in the PC version. Not sure if you could quickly select a weapon, spell, or item in the 360 version as I haven't played it, but I didn't really need to use them so again, they're both perfectly good choices.Graphics will obviously be better on the PC version if your PC can handle it, especially through mods. If your PC stinks you'd probably be better off with the 360 version. I should, though, mention that the PC version allows you to disable shadows by setting graphics to Very Low which may help a lot in dungeons. :twisted:It boils down to which system you favor and whether you think you'll like the game or not. He/she is actively immersed in the world of the video game. The player usually controls a player character that is actually a part of the story and the story is presented to the player as he/she is actually IN the game, which is the target of the developers.

BUT HOW DO THE DEVELOPERS ACTUALLY CONVEY THE STORY?
Can they do it effectively, convincingly while leaving a mark on the player's mind so that he/she remembers the story for years to come?
Let's see how different games PRESENT the story.

HALO Trilogy
There is no denying that Halo trilogy conveys one of the best sci-fi stories ever created in any medium. Many even consider it better than Star Wars saga. Now each Halo game has such a dense story that they actually make the player feel that they have covered a lot of ground at the end of each game. Halo 1 presents a great beginning to everything and at its end; it feels like it has an end. Halo 2 has a grand story and has every bit as dense story except for its cliffhanger ending. Finally Halo 3 really winds up the story and doesn't seem rushed and does a real good job at feeling like a final chapter unlike what The Matrix Revolutions did. The only problem with the presentation of the story in Halo games is that they assume that the player know a bit about back story. Many people couldn't make sense of Halo 3 at times. The ending celebration cinematic could have been more epic. Overall, the story is simply epic.

HALF-LIFE Series
It's been 9 years since Half-Life and STILL nobody knows much about G-Man, Gordon Freeman himself etc. Half-Life 2 introduced Combine of which Freeman had no idea. Episode One had no story virtually. Episode Two is the real long wanted story teller game in Half-Life universe. Still, where Half-Life games answer 1 question, they raise 100 others. They are still in the process of introducing everything. Episode Two took a series a little forward. Episode Three is definitely going to be something. Still, Half-Life is going to end anytime soon but they take so much time making it.

MASS EFFECT
Another epic, gorgeous world created by BioWare; the masters of storytelling. Mass effect presents the story beautifully and goes easy on the player. Anybody won't have any problem getting along with the story of this epic scale that rivals Halo, Star Wars. This is the way a story is told in a video game.

ASSASSIN'S CREED
The middle-east setting has a lot of promise but hasn't been used by game developers except for war game developers who only consider this part of the world to be warmongering. The Prince of Persia developers set the game in a beautiful era that has a holy feel to it. The Templar vs. Assassins story is ultra cool both in present day and 1191 AD timeline of Altair. The 2012 (present) time story is interesting but that part is too minor in the game. This part of the story wasn't exposed much. Still, there are 2 more games to come. It's no doubt got a promising premise.

PORTAL
Though this game was gameplay centric rather than story but it turned out to be one of the funniest games of all time. Featuring only THREE characters i.e. Chell, GLaDOS %26 Aperture Science Weighted Companion Cube, this game has minimal story. But all the cake stuff and GLaDOS' bluffing really were strong points of that minimal story. This proves that small bits of story can also make a big impact. It will be a shame if there isn't more of it.

BIOSHOCK
Nobody ever created a world like Rapture before. Though the ending doesn't leave a room for sequel or prequel, still something is in development. BioShock presents one of the more nerve wracking stories ever. The moment the player knows about the truth behind the phrase, ''Would you kindly?'' the world kind of turns upside down. The ending cinematic was way too short.

GEARS OF WAR
Again this is the case of not so fleshed out story. Gears of Wars paid attention to everything including gameplay, graphics, sound, characters, dialogue, architecture but the story wasn't explored much. The Locust Queen's lines were some real strong lines. Let's hope to get more stories in the inevitable sequel.

THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK
Escape from Butcher Bay is a proof that a video game based on the movie of the same franchise can be far better than movies. The Chronicles of Riddick universe suits more to the video game medium than movies.

MAFIA
Mafia was released around the same time as Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. It had everything that could make it better than a GTA game. A great story, city of Lost Heaven, music, gameplay compliments the then superior graphics. Thankfully, a sequel is coming.

GRAND THEFT AUTO
The best there was and the best there ever will be in this gansta franchise. Simply put, each game in the series has great story and believable characters.

CALL OF DUTY 4: MODERN WARFARE
People can't remember any character from Call of Duty %26 Call of Duty 2 except for the big moustache guy Capt. Price. He returns in COD 4 with other memorable characters Soap, Gaz, Imran Zakhaev, Khaled Al Assad. This is how a story is told in military themed shooter. Tom Clancy's games Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six and Splinter Cell never had a strong story and they need to learn. On the other hand Medal of Honor is now just a cash cow.

RESIDENT EVIL 4
It was a revival of a fading series. It employed an over the shoulder shooting mechanic that inspired many other shooters. But along with everything, the European village, the bosses, Leon, Ada Wong, Luis Sera, Las Plagas really presented a compelling which actually immersed the player into the world.

MAX PAYNE
Graphic novels were used instead of the usual cutscenes in Max Payne games that required real actors to pose. It had strong story and memorable characters. The cryptic nature of graphic novel really sucked the player into the film noir story.

Some games have great stories but aren't very effective in telling them. Some games succeed easily. But one thing is sure, people who never played a story driven video game are missing a big experience of life.StoryTELLING in Video Games
Halo one of the greatest sci-fi stories ever told? HAHAHAHA. Don't underestimate Half-life either. Half-life 2 displays what is probably the most unique perspective of storytelling in a game. It's just very submissive and not spoon fed to you. The combine, the zombies, everything is there for a reason, even if we can't see it, because Gordon doesnt.StoryTELLING in Video Games
Also, Gears probably has some of the worst story telling ever. Everybody I know thought the game took place on Earth...
I kind of agree with TheGrayEye there, Halo story certainly ain't THAT good. Don't get me wrong though, overall it's a great series, but to really appreciate it you're almost required to have read the books. And there is Resident Evil 4. I'm probably the only guy in the gaming world to have disliked it. Maybe it's because I was expecting an horror game, it sure wasn't scary and to be frank I thought it was rather silly. That and the fact that I really didn't care about Leon or anybody else completely turned me off. I'll give it another try someday, just to see if things have changed.Anyway, I think pretty much every Bioware games shows great storytelling abilities, everything is always top notch with them.
Personally, I really like the storytelling in Half-Life 2.
The player isn't told much, but learns a lot through observation and speculation - fans are still intelligently speculating on the plot of the original game, almost ten years after its release. Also, the Half-Life series was praised for its revolutionary storytelling. The story itself may seem lacking, but the way that it is told is brilliant.
A lot of you are banging up Halo for it's storytelling, and that saddens me.Halo is kinda like Star Wars; it's so deep that it's impossible to cover everything in a few short installments. In their own way, Lucasfilm and Bungie somewhat WANTED there to be books, comics, and other extended universe installments to flesh it out because there was so much potential. It wasn't sparse, quite the contrary. It was too big, and that was the problem (which was, of course, remedied by the brilliant literary accomplishments of Joseph Staten, Eric Nylund and William Deitz). Relax. Some worlds are best introduced slowly and then fleshed out by other people. We'll see more of it in our lifetimes, I'm sure of it. ;)
no one considers halo to have a better story then star wars. and if there is any one who actually thinks that, they should be slapped and labeled as some one who should never be listerned to.

i seriosuly doubt they will ever teach halo in film studies like they do with star wars.

dont express what you think, as if others have said it to you. halo does not have a great story, it has a good story. and its far from epic. if you want to acclaim it, acclaim it for its musical score, which is bloody excellent.

besides the question you porpose is ''how do games present their story'' you then ramble on about your mindless and ultimatly pointless views on the story.

if you have a point with this topic, your not making it. please entitle it ''my mindless opinions on some game stories.....mainly modern xbox360 games''
[This message was deleted at the request of the original poster]
no one considers halo to have a better story then star wars. and if there is any one who actually thinks that, they should be slapped and labeled as some one who should never be listerned to. i seriosuly doubt they will ever teach halo in film studies like they do with star wars. dont express what you think, as if others have said it to you. halo does not have a great story, it has a good story. and its far from epic. if you want to acclaim it, acclaim it for its musical score, which is bloody excellent. besides the question you porpose is ''how do games present their story'' you then ramble on about your mindless and ultimatly pointless views on the story. if you have a point with this topic, your not making it. please entitle it ''my mindless opinions on some game stories.....mainly modern xbox360 games''
Refreshingly direct. :D
A lot of you are banging up Halo for it's storytelling, and that saddens me.Halo is kinda like Star Wars; it's so deep that it's impossible to cover everything in a few short installments. The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Syberia are best stories in video games but they werent played by many. I only included the games which were played by most player worldwide. %26 Plzz stop loving hating Halo. U people should thank Bungie for Halo, Valve for Half-Life. Why do u people make competitions? Too many gr8 games = We win. Its good for us.
I didn't find Halo's storyline that great, really. It's interesting, yeah, but the way it's told seriously drags it down. It's as if Bungie were actually trying to make it as convoluted and confusing as possible.BioShock disappointed me with its storytelling especially after hearing that it's one of its strongpoints. The story itself is good, but the way it's presented and told is lacking, to say the least. I never really cared about any of the characters, the audio diaries approach failed to immerse the player into the gameworld, I never had a true sense of what went on in Rapture. There's no real character interaction there at all, you're basically just a loner who wanders through the city encountering mutated freaks. Half-Life 2 offers more emotionally-charged scenes in the first five minutes of gameplay than BioShock does in its entirety. For example, the woman who asks about her husband - she knows that the Combine took him, she knows he's gone, but she still desperately clings on to the bars hoping to see his face among the men getting off the arriving trains. It's an incredibly powerful moment and yet it's entirely possible that the player will just pass it up. And that's what's so amazing about Half-Life's storytelling - it doesn't force the player, it doesn't lead him by the hand, the amount of storyline that the player takes in is basically up to him save for the few crucial moments, of course. Valve's writers are at all times aware that this is a game, not a book, not a movie - a game.Resident Evil 4 has a few interesting tidbits (namely Las Plagas), but it's not even in the vicinity of what constitutes a good storyline. The writing is fantastically idiotic, the story is cliched as well as downright ridiculous, and the voice acting is average at best. To say that Resident Evil 4 has a good storyline is an insult to games that actually made an effort in crafting a good storyline.I agree with you that Grand Theft Auto (particularly Vice City), Mafia, and Portal have excellent storylines.
nice topic but you almost forgot one of the best and perhapse the first game that brought hollywood feel to video games ... the long runner Metal Gear series dude!
you can fill dozens of text books to tell its complex story and , like the case with most movies, the story in the end is linked with every one daily life in some way
nice topic but you almost forgot one of the best and perhapse the first game that brought hollywood feel to video games ... the long runner Metal Gear series dude!
you can fill dozens of text books to tell its complex story and , like the case with most movies, the story in the end is linked with every one daily life in some way
I concur :D
Clearly, we are not going to see eye-to-eye on this point.Your definition ofdeep, however, leaves somethingto be desired.:D
Halo has a highly polished presentation and a good plot for an FPS (which is nothing to brag about in terms of overall storyline across various genres) which serves simply to move the action forward....but If you're trying to say that Planescape Torment's or Baldur Gate II's storyline isn't deep or compelling, especially in comparison to Halo, then you clearly have to reevaluate your definition of a ''deep'' storyline. There is a reason why both Planescape Torment and Baldur's Gate II has made it onto many Greatest Games of All Time lists, including the one here at Gamespot....but then again, as soon as someone goes on about Halo having some ''deep'' storyline or one of the greatest storylines in videogames, it becomes a evident of how limited their exposure is into games with truly compelling storylines is.
The thing that really annoys me is that games usually look to text and/or cinematics to tell a story. Halo 3, Assassin's Creed, Metroid Prime, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, and there's more to name.
2007 will be a really hard act to follow.Blue Dragon
Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles
Eternal Sonata
Final Fantasy 20th Anniversary
Final Fantasy II 20th Anniversary
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Forza Motorsport 2 (GotY contender)
Growlanser: Heritage of War
Sega Rally Revo
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 (GotY contender)
Sonic Rush Adventure
Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection
Virtua Fighter 5 (GotY contender)One of the best years in quite awhile, right here.
If Spore, Starcraft II, and Dragon Age all make it out next year and actually live up to expectations, then next year could definitely be one of the better years in a awhile.Another thing, this year seemed to be filled with titles that were majorly overhyped, and though good, did not seem to meet everyones expectations of being the second coming of gaming.......and though next year is also has it's share of with big name hyped titles such are MGS4, GTA IV, Starcraft II, and Ninja Gaiden 2, it also seems to have a fair share of niche titles that I think will surprise a lot of people in terms of the quality they deliver, games like Mafia 2, Sins of a Solar Empire, Brutal Legend, and others may actually end up being the real stars of the year.
2007 has been great, but 2008 should be great aswell with games like starcraft 2 and fallout 3.
adult acne
Cohenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12734408503977344673noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6487743803345454417.post-39920999280940662762011-12-13T06:00:00.002-08:002011-12-13T06:00:44.243-08:00Need Help and Explanation with Random Lag Spikes :(Hello. Here's a pic of ISPI currently play CoD4, Halo3, and Guild Wars online. Right now, debates are going on, right side vs. the left basically about whether or not U.S. should be a isolationist country. Well that new video kind of hints as to the consequences of us being an isolated country. Just about everything from the media to movies contains politics, about time gaming got some huh?Political Agenda in Turning Point?
Try MGS.Cohenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12734408503977344673noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6487743803345454417.post-34268256690464567542011-12-13T06:00:00.000-08:002011-12-13T06:00:05.964-08:00What are your favorite gaming blogs?I'm trying to find some good gaming blogs. Do not take any logical and/or scientific flaws in the world depicted in the movie into account when discussing in this thread.Step 2: Think of an mmo (rpg would be best imo, but it might require some innovative thinking to work) set in the Waterworld... world.Step 3: Discuss. I myself believe that if the concept ends up with the right devs, it could become simply awesome. Waterworld MMORPG
It's funny I actually did watch the movie recently (at work) and thought there were some cool concepts in the movie. I cant really see how an mmorpg could work since you'd have to traverse so much water to get to anything but hey who knows.Waterworld MMORPG
Yeah, the travel problem is the one thing that needs to be overcome first. It's difficult, but by no means impossible.
Yeah, the travel problem is the one thing that needs to be overcome first. It's difficult, but by no means impossible.
As long as the battle system doesnt turn out like Bloodwake than I'd be down with it. Also I'd want to be able to visit the underwater ruins via the bathysphere.
I think it could work, just take any MMO and transform the land into water. Water would be the new ground. It would just take some innovative thinking to get the transportation down. There would of course be water taxi's of sorts that are going to certain areas for you. Perhaps it could be like Vanguard and you get a ''mount'' early in the game. Or maybe the whole newbie area of the game can be a series of quests from one city area that involves getting a boat together for yourself. But wouldnt there be a problem with enemies? It sounds like almost all you would encounter would be humans.
I think I was one of the few people who actually liked Waterworld. While I'm not a big MMORPG player, I think this could be a really cool concept if done well.
A waterworld MMO would be something cool to try out. In the movie there where ''mutated'' humans which could be emphasized more in the game. You could probably start out with a normal boat with a standard harpoon, and get upgrades for it such as bigger sails and a mini-submarines when you complete quests, kill pirate enemies, and hunt for items. You could have trading with other players, or kill them to loot some stuff, but the starting zone you start in would not allow PvP to allow new players to start off well. You can create a guild when a player collects enough items to build a small home base for it.I can only imagine....
Isnt blizzard working on this? Or have they stopped it awhile ago?
It would be like Wind Waker, only much worse :?Cohenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12734408503977344673noreply@blogger.com0
